Coastal KZN TVET College Umlazi V Campus is one of eight campuses within the Coastal KZN TVET College, which is the largest college in KwaZulu-Natal, averaging around 15,000 full-time students and employing about 800 staff members[1].

The college resulted from the merger of Durban Technical College, Swinton Road Technical College, Umlazi Technical College, Umbumbulu and Appelsbosch Colleges of Education, making it a key provider of technical and vocational education and training in the region[1][6]. The Umlazi V Campus is located at 200 Prince Mcwayizeni Dr, Umlazi, and is easily accessible within eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality[4][3].

Coastal KZN TVET College serves a vast catchment area spanning from Ozwathini to the south of Durban, reaching approximately 80km along the coast and encompassing communities such as Umlazi, KwaMakhutha, Lamontville, Isipingo, Amanzimtoti, and Scottburgh[1]. The college’s diverse student body includes adult learners, unemployed and employed individuals from local industries, and youth both in and out of school, with residence facilities attracting students from across South Africa[1].

Programmes at the Umlazi V Campus focus on equipping graduates with practical skills that are in high demand in the workplace, giving students strong employment prospects post-graduation[5]. The campus offers various accredited qualifications, including National Certificate Vocational (NCV) courses, Nated Report-191 programmes, and short skills-related courses tailored to regional industry needs[6]. The proximity to thriving economic activities in eThekwini ensures a close alignment of course offerings to the job market and local business needs[3].

The college’s central administration office is located at KwaMakhutha, further supporting the dynamic integration of all campuses, including Umlazi V[1]. Students benefit from access to learner support, career guidance, and skills development initiatives intended to meet socio-economic needs through innovative and responsive educational programs[1].
